Children of Incarcerated Parents

Co investigator Jessica Reid

Children affected by parental incarceration remain under-served and under-studied in Canada. We are currently examining the effects of parental incarceration on externalizing behaviours and internalizing symptoms in two studies. The first study focuses on adults who experienced the impact of parental incarceration when they were children and the second study focuses on children who are currently separated from an imprisoned parent.  We hope that our studies will help to extend our understanding of the impact of parental incarceration and provide a platform to advocate for policy change and provision of supportive programming.
