Root Rot (Pythium aphanidermatum)

Pythium aphanidermatum poses a threat to the growth and production of beets, peppers, chrysanthemum, cucurbits, and cotton, it has a major impact on greenhouse production, particularly in Poinsettia production. The losses due to this disease create significant economical threat to farmers in Canada and world wide. We decided that, to investigate this disease thoroughly, we must analyse interactions between the pathogen and different hosts. We selected varieties of the crop species cucumber, corn and wheat for infection studies.
