"Science cannot give us all the answers. In fact, the most difficult questions, the most persistent problems are not matters of science, but of values. Science can tell us what is happening, but it cannot make us do anything about it."
(Wuerthner and Matteson, 2002)
I am a research scientist in the Aquatic Research and Development Section,
Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources where I am
responsible for conducting research and providing science to support the waterpower portion of MNR's Renewable Energy Program. This includes the
development and integration of knowledge and tools to support both policy development and program implementation. The broad objective is to increase understanding of the alteration to river systems caused by dams and waterpower facilities and identify possible biophysical consequences. I am also an Adjunct Professor in the Environmental & Life Sciences Graduate Program, Trent
University, Peterborough, Ontario. Most importantly though, I am a geographer!
